The castle dates from the 14th century and it seats on a rocky outcrop overlooking the sea. It’s located near Butera in the province of Caltanissetta.
Pantelleria Island, a great place for kissing
Pantelleria is an island formed by a dormant volcano located in the Sicily Channel. You can describe it as a place where the Arab culture meets its Mediterranean counterpart; all over the island you’ll see ancient Arab constructions (dammusi) built with the local stone. A typical house in Pantelleria will be a square building with thick walls and a cistern on the roof to collect rainwater. The coast is rocky all around, so don’t expect sandy beaches. A good way to explore the island is renting a quad and just driving around the countryside or stopping along the coast in every spot that you like. For a romantic evening, I recommend sipping bellinis as the sun goes down on the terrace of the “U Friscu” caffè.

I agree that Pantelleria is a great place for kissing, still, I would like to correct you on some other things. First, Pantelleria has no active volcanoes since 3,000years. The Arab influence is, apart from the village's names, as good as not existing. The typical houses have Greek origins and there is not one sandy beach on the island. I hope you don't mind me correcting these details. There is however one thing which is mush more important that I would like to ask you. To respect the islands' peace and tranquillity, please, please don't ever rent a quad.

Hi walter, thanks for your input. You're right about the volcano not being technically active anymore, I'll adjust my description, however the last eruption was on 1891 at only 4km from the coast on the NW flank, when the island of Foerstner was formed.
The typical houses known as "dammusi," that you see all over the island are of Arab origin and date from their 835 AD occupation. Also the "zibibbo" grape, widely cultivated in the island, was introduced by the Arabs, as well as the cous cous, one of the local dishes, and some words from the local dialect.
So even if the island was occupied not only by Greeks, but also by Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines and even Vandals, in my opinion, the most evident influence is still Arab.
If quads are a problem, a scooter could do the job. There's also a local bus service available, but I never got to use it so I'm not sure about the rates or frequency.
